dude, i have a similar problem and have replaced the tps with no luck, i have read that it may be the idle adjustment on the throttle body that needs a bit of tweaking, i will do it tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

Of these people who are experiencing this problem, how many have modifications such as the 1.8L cam? I'm wondering if by making the intake duration and lift longer, thus creating less of a vacuum, that any extra load on the engine wants to drop the rpm to something that the IAC can't control.

Or maybe there's something going on (unrelated to the 1.8 cam) in the knock sensor area causing false knock counts, retarding spark?

I have the stock 2.0 cams and ECU.

I'm going to check tightness on my butterfly valve, clean my IAC, verify proper operation, check my PCV and verify vacuum... Anyone know how many mmHg or -psi we should have for vacuum? It feels similiar to a vacuum leak.

I got my idle problem sorted!!..............it was the tps and butterfly on the throttlebody.

First I loosened the tps screws a little and twisted it as far left as possible to get a lower idle.

Then I adjusted the screw on the throttlebody to let the car idle at around 500-600rpm without the idle control valve connected then I hooked up the valve and its fully functional with an idle of 850rpm smile.gif

Im chuffed!!

ok, i did some reserch and found the idle should be set at about 850-900 RPM at normal idle. the idle should change to 800-945 RPMs when the a/c is turned on. im going to adjust my idle to suite, and see what that does. also as a last resort my works trouble shoter said ECU if nothing was found to be bad. ill post the whole list tonite if i have the time.

I replaced my A/C compressor with no change in activity. I'm going to try to replace my clutch/flywheel. I think it may be that the slightly higher RPM is the sweet spot for engine vibration.

I had the same problem as well, it almost wanted to stall the motor.

It actually went away after I put my ARK pullies on, didn't seem to drop more than 50 RPM after turning the A/C on with the pullies. Thats just what it felt like, I didn't have a shop tach hooked up or anything so thats meerly a guess.

Then I took the belt off the A/C to see any gains, if any, and I haven't put it back on since.

May not be your problem, but just my experince with it.
