if you wanna save some weight, take out your rear bench, or take out your spare. you could even wear lighter shoes and just boxers if you're worried about 6 lbs. i saw a guy who owned a CRX or some ricer civic POS, and he took his off, and his engine bay kept getting too hot, and then his ricey orange paint bubbled up all nasty. i'd leave it on.

Hrm... I've never had any problems with paint bubbling... at least not yet anyway. Course where I live it doesn't get extremely hot to push under-hood temperatures way up and I don't have to sit in traffic for extensive periods of time...

I say no but if you wanna do somethign with it you can take it off, repaint it some purdy color and then put it back in, or take out some of the lining, but i would keep some at least thin insulation between direct hood and engine meetings.

If you have a turbocharger, or especially a supercharger, than I wouldn't do this as it would bake the paint fairly well in a much shorter period of time. However, if your N/A, the temps under there do not get hot enough to hurt the paint much faster than if you left it alone, unless Hyundai paint is really horrible... which I don't think its that bad. By the time it got to the point of bubbling, you'd be due for a fresh paintjob over the entire car.
Seven pounds is seven pounds... I'll take off any weight I can. On a medium-light car like the Tib, seven pounds does wonders compared to taking seven pounds off of a Camaro/V6 GK/etc.

I use to have an 88 crx and i just rememebred that my hood didnt have the shield. I remember when it rained, my hood would have soo much steam coming out. I thought my car was overheating but i guess not. im pretty sure the heat will mess up your hood.

well, I do think that Dynamat makes some nice reflective hood dampening material that looks a lot nicer than the stock stuff. Probably the perfect thing for a C/F hood.

i took mine off when i had my stock hood on and i didn't have any problems. then i bought my veilside hood and have had that on and also don't have any problems. however, i have a pretty big air vent in my hood which lets the engine stay a lot cooler...but i haven't had any problems at all. the underside of the hood is painted also and i don't have any problems there either. only problem i have there is my nitrous hosing rubbing...but with just a touch up you can't even tell because it's so minor.
