HELP! 01 Tiburon won't start, still turns over

The hydraulic valve lash adjusters sometimes make an alarming racket. Using OEM or other high quality oil filters -specifically NOT fram- and keeping the oil topped off is usually enough to keep them quiet. A few moments of clattering at a cold start, especially on a cold day, are not a cause for alarm. Hyundai says keep engine speed under 3000RPM and the noise should disappear within 10-15 minutes, tops.
Always follow engine manufacturer's guidance to the letter during reassembly!

Well I got her all fixed up, it was definitely under torqued head bolts that was making the loud banging noise! I let her idle for 10 minutes then drove for a few miles...she runs nice and smooth. I changed out the oil too. Listening by the valve cover it does make an audible ticking noise, but it sounds like that's normal.
Thank you all so so so much for all the help. You saved my car from going to the junkyard! I'll be around for here for awhile!
One last question, do you have to burp the coolant system or radiator? I just filled it up and topped off the coolant reservoir. I know older cars you had to let it idle for awhile with the radiator cap off and keep topping it off. I didn't do that though.

Oh no!
Just kidding man, glad to hear you get the thing running again. I know I was of little help in the process, but I was checking back on the thread daily wondering how it would work out. It sounds to me like you've earned yourself a beer.
Now how about a few pictures of the car?

It took in about 5 quarts of coolant. I think the system holds 6 quarts or so, so I'm guessing the rest was still in the block. Sounds like it's good, no burping needed. It didn't overheat this morning on my way to work or anything.
Man does this thing stink though. Smells like a mix of burning coolant/oil/brake fluid/clutch. I'm hoping its just the new gaskets burning in and the engine block burning off the coolant that got spilled on it? Hopefully this smell goes away soon, it's nasty!

Lol, no kidding. Smells discusting. Now I'm remembering I sprayed a crap ton of PB blast on the exhaust bolts. So maybe that's the lovely smell of burning PB blast!

i always recommend changing the oil twice when doin a head gasket
once right when you get it goin again, another time after a few miles to make sure you got all the nasty sh*t out of the motor after its ran a lil while
thats just me though
