Default Heat shield removal

I took the heat shield off of my exhaust manifold today, basically cuz it was dirty and I really dont like how it looks in the first place. My question is: is it going to melt my fans?

I've seen a few pics of what appear to be stock exhaust manifolds w/o the shield so I figured it'd be ok, but after a short drive I put my hand on the plastic in there and it was HOT.... kinda startin to worry me. Should I put the shield back on???

yea its stupid it just deflects the heat down instead of toward your air filter. I've had mine off for maaaad long. no problems car runs great.

You keep it off when you get headers too man.

well i knew that but i figured aftermarket would be more efficient at keeping in their own heat. i dunno haha

IF you are worried.. you could always paint it up and reinstall...

I painted mine with plain old Duplicolor spray on touch up paint.. still looks nice and shiney after six months

i painted mine, keeps under hood temps cooler keeping it on, which equals a little power. and ive seen many cars(not tiburons though) that took off the heat shield, and after a year or so, had the clear coat right above the manifold look messed up.

i seriousely went to the local shop, and pulled one off the shelf. the posts were backwords, u can see that in the pic, but they still work fine. im still using the stock tie down also. if u really need to know, i can pull the # off it, but im sure u would want to get one that has the posts right.
