Hey my gas mileage is like 25-26 MPG ive read a lot of the forms and people are always saying they are getting 29-35. Why could my gas milage be low without a CEL? I do normal mantenence routinly Wash air filter, change oil, change fuel filter, put air in tires,change Spark plugs. What could be the problem? Oh by the way i have a 2000 tib.

Contributors to low fuel economy:

Stopping, Accelerating, Turning (City driving: <20MPG not unheard-of)
Tune-up plugs/wires/air & fuel filters/ oil & oil filter/ tire rubber compound/ A/C use or not/ tire inflation/ gear selection while traveling/ spirited vs. conservative driving/ hilly/flat terrain, etc.

My car ranges from 19 to 34 MPG depending on all of the above. The expression Your Mileage May Vary didn't come into being for no reason eh. Do a tune-up, inflate your tires, and drive conservatively. Then you will get as good of fuel economy as you are likely to, where you drive. If you go for a highway-only road trip and aren't at least in the high 20's then start wondering why. Until then, if your MPG is pretty much always the same +/- 1 or 2 you are in good shape.

gas mileage will vary depending on fuel used, modifications to the car, driving habits, level of routine maintenance performed, and most importantly geographic location and the surrounding terrain.

I get 20-23 in my Tib. Never much more, hardly ever less. I do drive like a bat out of hell, pushing it to the floor every chance I get. But, we now have 10% ethanol added to our fuel (which takes 2-3MPG away), and in Tennessee there are rolling hills, so I'm always traveling uphill - even on interstates.

We're had polls on our site before, we've tried to find reasons why some people get so much more mileage than others. Search for the past threads - not everybody gets 30mpg in their Tib, and there's no one reason for it.

I have reached 30-33mpg only once, on a long interstate road trip following my parents (so I wasn't stomping on the gas, drove conservatively, and followed another vehicle). That's the only time I got near 30mpg, and it never happened again.

I Have a CAI, Performance plugs and wires, Use 92, or 93 octane, just seafoamed for the first time a month ago, i dont drive like a grandma but im not pedal to the floor ALL the time 1/2 city 1/2 highway, about 300 miles for between 12 and 13. it used to be better. When it was bone stock.

mine averages right around 18 mpg solid, pedal to the floor, or granny shifting. when i first got the car the 2nd tank of gas i put in got me low 40's mostly city, little highway, first tank got me 36. it steadily went down the more i drove the car but sits at 18mpg all intown driving

i too have a Cai, performance plugs/wires and a few random things here, oil changes every 3 months on the nose (never make it upwards of probably 1500 miles in those 3 months) and air filter is cleaned twice now, i've given up on why the mileage isnt all that great because the car runs like a top. just depends on the car i suppose

I agree with others in saying there are many variables that may affect your gas milage like driving habbits. That being said when I put this same question to most mechanics I know they blame a faulty O2 sensor. Do you display any signs of running rich? The smell of gasoline when standing behind the vehicle while running? black smoke when you go WOT? etc..

they may like to blame an O2 sensor b/c they can charge you $200+ for 15 minutes' work to change one.
