Defeating/removing The Security Torx Screws On The Mafs.

Way back in the day, for my first MAFS removal I used a pliers to grab the rim of the screw head. It chewed up the screw pretty badly but it got the job done. Recently I was going to be cleaning and swapping in my spare mass airflow sensor for troubleshooting and I didn't want to go through the hassle again. Cut-off wheel on the dremel and a minute or two gets you this:
Flat-head operated security torx screw!
You're welcome.

i picked up a multi bit screwdriver set from craftsman one time for 20 bux. i know money is tight for you bud but this set just happen to have tamper proof torx in it. also them tamper proof flat head bits that they use in public bathrooms to put up the privacy stalls. i have always wanted to go into one of them bathrooms and loosen everything to the point that it fall apart.
sorry for the OT.

ive been told that torx head bolts spread the pressure evenly compared to a phillips head. dont see how, but that is what i was told one time.

You could use another type of screw if you could find the proper thread pitch. I don't much care for the idea of using the wrong threads, destroying the housing, and having to use JB-weld or something just to hold my sensor on when it was perfect 5 minutes before! wink1.gif
They're probably security torx because they didn't want you unbolting a fragile part that makes all the difference in the world to how your engine runs, and poking it with a stick.
Drilling a tool made of tool steel, especially a small thing like the END of a torx bit: not as easy as you might think!
Torx is easy for robots to assemble because it was designed to PREVENT cam-out of the tool. Philips was designed to CAUSE cam-out of the screwdriver in the days before effective torque-limiting tools.

meh ive thought about this before, and i figured what i would do is just drill out the little point in the middle of the screw itself, and use my torx bit, but this looks like it would work just as well
