I've never heard of a charcoal box before, maybe they mean charcoal canister?
I found this in DSMtalk Forums:
A charcoal canister is exclusively a device to eliminate evaporative emissions. some of the fuel in your tank will turn into vapor or evaporative hydro carbons. in the olden days, this vapor would just be vented in to the atmosphere. bad for the environment. the canister traps and stores the fuel vapor until it can be purged from the canister into the intake where it can be burned. def. not emissions legal. does your car need a canister to operate...no.
Heres the link where I found that ----> Charcoal Canister
Same thing?

yeah..
its nothing more than the evap canister. the same thing us rev a rd1 people have in front of their car. we remove it to install a cai. read the diy on removing the evap canister, and follow it. or, take the pics of spiffy's into the shop and tell them "do this" its easy and safe to remove yourself though.
good luck.
