argh... I just noticed he had an RD1. Would the alternator be any different for a first gen?
I had my TPS changed out under warranty also. Wasn't having those problems, but they may have caught it before it messed up

Are you sure the alternator is bad? From what you describe, it sounds like the belt was simply slipping when you gave the engine gas.
That's exactly what has been happening to me. Bad because my lights would dim and my battery light even came on once. Turns out my (worn) alternator belt had half an inch of play and was very worn. The recent cold, wet weather here in VA made it worse.

You should still get your old alternator tested, or even test it yourself, although if you had a mechanic look at it, he probably already did. The clicking could be due to a low battery charge, since it was not being recharged adequately by the alt. And the bogging is because your spark plugs weren't getting enough power. That's my theory anyway. Could be a bad alt, but it would still pay to check the belt. Mine was slipping yet not making the usual dying bird screetch noise that accompanies a slipping belt. Turned out my alternator was fine, which I found out only after I pulled it.

working engine takes not that much electrical power.
believe me, I used to drive 3 times till battery was fully discharged.
at first wipers start to move slowly (if they are on), then ABS light come on, then AIR BAG lamp come on, tach needle starts to do up and down. But engine is still working. But as soon as AIR BAAG light come on it wouldn't last for a long time, I would say just couple of miles.
can you charge the battery and drive your car with fully charged battery?
