I was driving on highway and when i floored the gas the car would hesitate and my rpms drop. This happened in my elantra as well. I thought that was due to a bad o2 sensor. Its a 1.8l with 83k miles. What you guys think?

I would ask the same questions as above, and add to it:
check air filter, check alternator... but I would think plugs and/or wires would be your best (and cheapest) fix. See if the spark plug wire boots have burn marks, or if the spark plugs are burnt on the tips.

If I understand correctly, I had the exact same problem as you. What happened to me is I would drive highway speed, and every minute or so the engine would loose all power. then after about 10 seconds it would work for a minute or so, and repeat. I was scared something was broken. Fortunately, one of the hoseclamps had come loose on my CAI, and it had fallen off, so all the air was coming strait into the engine unmetered and unmonitored (aka not passing through the MAF or Temp sensor). So, if this is the same symptoms you are haveing, and your CAI didnt fall off, I would assume it's your MAF.

Being that he only gets hesitation when he tries to accelerate, I would say your problem is spark.
Get plug wires and some good spark plugs.

I thought it might be the alternator. If it's going dead, it'll start kicking out when more power is needed (accelerating, braking, etc.).
You'll need to attack it from the top most likely. Take out the bolts you can see, then jack up the car. You'll have to get it from the bottom. Make sure all bolts are out, and hit it on top with a hammer to knock it down (don't think you can bring it up, has to go down).
Hopefully someone else can give you some insight into it. I've heard (and seen) that they are very hard to get out the first time you remove them. You'll have to beat the crap out of it to loosen it.
1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Loosen the belt tension.
3. Raise the vehicle.
4. Remove the mud guard - RH
5. Disconnect the generator B+ terminal wire and connector.
6. Remove the belt and generator mounting bolt (2EA).
7. Remove the generator assembly.
8. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Since it's an older Tib, go get the TPS checked by Hyundai, if you have the old DaeSung one, they have to replace it, free.
