CAI On A Rev A
#31
well, i have an rd2, so the evap canister shouldnt (or so ive read) be a problem since it's only there on a rev a.
but the maf sensor get's plugged into the stock airbox, so are you saying to just add the piping off the airbox and just remove the filter? i hate hijacking this thread, but if i do make my own, i will redo the tut. i could probably figure out everything else out, it's just figuring out what to do with the maf sensor...

^ Remove the stock air-box completely. Run the new piping off the MAF sensor.
You will need to drill a hole in the new piping for the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor. Be sure to retain the stock rubber grommet out of the stock air-box too.
EDIT*: Actually, I just remembered that Mad_Machine had a similar setup on his Tib before it got written off. PM him to see if he has any pics of his CAI. It was a simpler & probably more efficient design that used a straight section of pipe & only one 90 degree bend.

ok, that's what im thinking about, the temp sensor not the maf sensor...
but ok, i wasnt sure if it was more involved then just drilling and plugging it into the piping, but i'm pm'ing mad_machine to see if he has any advice to offer.
but would you suggest getting an aem knock off or custom fab'ing one?

I'm the member who ordered the CAI from the US and had redz deliver to me. Still cost me around $100 after the re-delivery and he's right. Quality isn't that great, but i installed it grudgingly without expectations... suprise suprised noticed a difference. Put a smile on my dial. But you get used to it after a week. Don't expect serious improvements.
Had to move the evap up higher to fit too, was a b****.
I bought this initially:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-98-99-00...1QQcmdZViewItem
Then this which i fitted on the end of the Y piece (only JUST fit):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-02-TIBUR...ayphotohosting)
I still have the second piece if you want it but not sure how it will fit without the y piece. Im looking at getting a 4G63T now to chuck in ;-)

yeah well..i thought about it..wit all the shipment cost i would be better just making my own CAI..i can get 45 and 90 degree bends for like 70$AUS and im going to buy a K&N pod filter. So it works out cheaper and is probably better..Ill just have my CAI starting from were the box was, so i keep my stock arm (or watever its called) and just work my way from there..i might even be ok without the 45 degree bent..so its just a straight pipe then the 90 degree and into the space..Just like col96fx did on his car.

They're a AEM dealer for Australia, might be worth asking them how much it would be for your CAI before going the Ebay route.
