Just to add a bit to this, winter time tends to dry out belts more then the summer time. You can make a belt last alot longer by spraying belt dressing on the belts while they are moving. It's a rejuvinator for the belts. It will get into the rubber, moisturize it, and stop them from squealing. If you want to do a repair, it's best to replace the belts. For a quick fix, tightening and belt dressing is the way to go and you'll get a couple more months out of them.

The tibby I just purchased has this same problem, the belts squeal when the engine is cold. Since I don't know when the belts were last replaced I will replace them all to be on the safe side. Good thread, very helpful.

Belt squeel is usually caused by them being too loose. I'm glad the problem was fixed, but I would've spent time looking at the tightness. I would also blame the belt before any other component (P/S, alt, etc.) and make sure it is NOT the belts before replacing any other part.
Glad you fixed the problem.
