I need to remove my alternator... I'm going to take off my pass. front tire and get under there but until then, are there any quick hints on it's removal? My manual sucks for picsand directions. The belt snapped so I wont need to remove the tension until I put a new belt on.
Thanks, guys.

yes. no tire removal necessary. attacking it from underneath is key though
consider lucky we don't have Santa Fe's. the only way i've figured out how to get the alternator out involves taking the r/f axle out also. haha

we had one at our shop and it was the only way of getting the thing out. getting from the top is impossible, and there isn't enough room to get it out w/o taking out the axle

That's exactly what I love our cars. They have the newer style look of no room to work in the engine bay, but in all actuality, you can work just fine in the engine bay. Everything comes off directly.
... that is, assuming you have a CAI. the stock intake has to come out for anything on that side of the engine.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I was hoping not to get flamed for that question!
Is there a cross-reference on that alternator? I'm going to a place that bebuilds them and I'm wondering if there's a cheaper version I can look for.
I had commented earlier (regarding Santa Fe's) that my Geo Tracker's oil pan is not accessable unless you pull the whole front drivetrain.
Not to mention the earlier Land Rovers where you must remove the front seats and a plate in the floor to take out the tranny!

I got mine from Javageek. He got it from california alternator. It had a problem with the bearing and they honored Javageek's warranty for the part. I recommend them.

I use a place down the street, RC Truck Sales, that I always go to. They are super good guys and they go out of thier way for me and... NO SHIPPING!
ok, I removed that "square" bolt from underneath. Then I took out the adjustment bolt. The alternator STILL pivots as if the lower bolt is still in it.
What gives?

It's tight. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry it off. If it still resists maybe give that mount a shot of penetrating oil then it should slide right off.
