Default 2001 Tiburon - No Spark

Looking for some help here..

2001 Tiburon - Automatic Trans

Not getting spark but does crank fine

Getting fuel where needed

Replaced Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)

Replaced Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)

Replaced Ignition Coil

Checked ECM relay - tests OK

Checked all fuses and relays I could find

Engine Compartment Fuses/Relays

Kick panel fuses

Relay panel behind dash (where flasher unit is)

Battery and charging system are good

Starter good

I have traced all wires from ignition coil, CMP, CKP, and ECM relay to thier respective pins on the ECM harness with a meter and all test fine.

Aside from a bad ECM, what could be the problem?

stupid question but did you check all of the harness conections?

aside from that i'm pretty clueless-... you've done a pretty thorough diagnosis.

May be the ignition coils themselves. Go to www.hmaservice.com and make an account, its free. Then select your vehicle in the shop section and there will be all kinds of goodies including ignition coil test procedures.

Checked out hmaservice. I have replaced the coils already to eliminate that as the problem.

Anyone happen to live in the Philly area and are willing to try my ECM in your car? Would help me eliminate or verify that as the issue?

Another thing that could help me out...I can't seem to find anything specific on what kind of voltage I should expect to see to the CKP sensor.

With the sensor disconnected and the ignition to the ON position, I am seeing about 1.6vdc between ground and pins 2 and 3 on the harness side.

Traced all three pins back to ECU and the wire shows no shorts or opens and resistance is well under 1 ohm so thats not the issue

One thing to double-check: the wires on the crank sensor harness can LOOK okay but actually be shorting inside, near the sensor. Pull the outer sheath back and VERY closely examine the wires themselves. Mine looked ok but the wires' insulators had become VERY thin and in places the wires were bare. They were black with fouling from the engine bay, so it was hard to see.
