Who has AAA?
I keep getting stuff in the mail with special discount offers to join AAA and its been on my mind, but wondering if its really worth it. Who here has it, and how often do you use it? With the way my luck is, I know that if I dont get it...I'll need it right away! laugh.gif So I guess in that aspect its good to have for peace of mind. dunno.gif

I have Hyundai Roadside Assistance - don't need AAA. I'd consider it for my wife's vehicle, since she may not trust herself to change a flat tire if she gets stuck, but my insurance through Allstate covers a lot of that - including $50 for towing.

The "Classic" membership isn't really worth it unless you run out of gas all the time. The towing only covers up to 5 miles and can only be used once a year. You'll need a "Plus" or "Premier" membership for any real benefits.

^Yep. Friend blew his clutch at the track in his x-runner. Luckily our other friend had AAA and was able to get him home for free. When calling tow trucks I think they wanted over $100.
And classic is not worth it as i8 said. Also, look into getting a discount trough work. My dad was able to get it at a really good price through work.

Last time I got towed, it was $50 +x.xx per mile (I think $2.50/mi?) and I think my insurance covers the first $75.
So... even if you didn't have coverage under anything else, a $75 towing charge is what you would pay. The cost of an AAA membership is higher than that, so it's only worth it (financially) if you have to get towed on average more than once every year. I guess you should consider how reliable your car is.

One time i had to have the tib towed i didnt have AAA, and it cost me something like $140, $75 for the hookup and whatever per mile for 30 miles... it sucked, and it was just a blown slave cylinder...
now i have AAA and haven't needed it, but its nice its there...

AAA Classic = $64 (covers up to four 5-mile tows). You would've needed AAA Plus = $97 which covers four 100-mile tows. . AAA Premier = $122 allows for one 200-mile tow and up to three 100-mile tows.
So having AAA would've saved you ~$40. AAA is insurance. If you use it, it might save you money. If you don't use it, it's money down the drain. Some like to pay for it ahead of time in case they don't have the money in a pinch
