it seems like you want a car that you and your grandpa could theoretically share. if you're thinking Accent, Veloster, or Elantra, i would say go for the new direct-inject elantra. i got a chance to ride in one this weekend and it is top quality. not even comparable to the old Hyundais.

as far as my own decision goes...

i would not get either.. i would get a 2.0T gen coupe, but i would wait until the revision (if its for real)

i side with turbosocks. the new one might have dual clutch, will have direct inject, 274hp on a 4cyl and 87 fuel. that's something that will tame the heiße Frauen.

lol... Genesis Coupe isn't comparable? I guess it depends on if you want 5 doors or 2.

2012 is hoping for 274hp 2.4L DI Theta II

There's a big difference between the Accent and Genesis. What are you wanting the car for? There's a huge price and performance difference. $13,500 vs. $27,000? If you're seriously considering cars, you need to consider the purpose and what you want out of it. What reason do you have for wanting to get rid of a 2008 Accent and get a 2012 Accent?

personally i don't see the point of personalizing a car that is meant to be driven by other people hahaha. so that only points to the Genesis. but in order to drive one, you have to fit the profile of a Genesis owner. a Genesis owner wants to man-handle it unlike an Accent or Elantra. Accents and Elantras are not really designed for man-handling.

i'd also like to advise you that gas prices have hit >$4.00 while you've been away. i'm not sure if that may sway your choice.

Yeah, Hyundai's pushing the Elantra, Accent, and Veloster as 40+ mpg options. With a M/T Genesis, you'll be lucky to see 30mpg.

Don't get me wrong. I love the GC and my 2 door coupes, but after testing both, 2010 r-spec 2.0 and 2011 speed3, I am of the opinion that the speed packs more much punch and handles better. Though I will admit a 275hp awd GC would be amazing, if it were in that same price range it might change my mind but thus far that config is just speculation.

it's more likely than just speculation. I haven't been keeping up with the rumors, but when the veloster is right behind the GC, and the Sonata turbo is 274, I don't see why they would NOT put the Theta II in the GC. It just doesn't make sense.

I agree, it makes sense, and that seems to be Hyunda's business strategy these days (unlike most other mfrs), but 1.) it's not on the market quite yet for me to compare 2.) it'll need more than just raw power to make up the difference. The GC is a good car, but the speed3 just struck me as more car fore the cash. If they do add AWD though, it might just close that gap. Granted the face lifted speed3 is coming soon too and it seems to be moving toward fmic and a new engine so we'll have to see what come of this summer.

What sort of aftermarket support does the Mazda have, and is that a large consideration?

In my purchase that's not a huge consideration, but it is a valid question to pose considering the topic.

I would say the aftermarket Mazda scene parallels Nissan or Honda. A lot of goodies to be had a fair prices. I don't know about the rest of you but my biggest concern when buying a new car is warranty, and there Hyundai has them hands down. Plus Hyundai seems a lot more tuner friendly, I have heard a few horror stories about Mazda being dicks over small mods. Granted they also have a slew of options that the dealer can install so that sort of makes sense. Don't expect to build a track car and still have warranty, that's pretty much how it goes for all manufactures though.
