Default Oil Additives

I have a question. I used an oil additive on my engine oil, I use mobil synthetic 10w-30, and I noticed when I did the oil change, the oil came out blacker then usual. Is there a reason for this? I don't remember what brand it was. It was purchased at Napa and it was like 15 bucks for a small bottle. I only used it that one time but still I wonder. Any Ideas?......

Could be the additive doing its job, i.e. breaking up gunk that builds up in there. I am no expert though but I dont think you have any problems.

Have you always used synthetic? If you used conventional motor oil and then switched later, or a previous owner used conventional oil, the additive might just be cleaning out residue left by it. Does it run any smoother than before?

No, first owner (hopefully will be only owner LOL) and i've always used synthetic. This was the first time I used any type of additive.

I just ran engine flush yesterday before my oil change and it came out blacker than usual. I use the Valvoline synthetic blend, although I used to use regular 10w30 oil for a couple of years.

Anyway, after the change the car runs much better. Smoother response.

So I guess this darker oil after the additives is just the gunk being removed.

Now to find out why she's eating oil at an alarming rate. DOH!

Prolly because all that gunk was plugging small leaks, lol.

I ran engine flush on my last oil change, and the engine feels sooooooooooo much better. In general oil additives are BAD, seeing as they disrupt the detergents and such that are already in the oil.

Oh no, she was consuming oil well before the flush. I figured that wouldn't hurt, but that was a concern.

In general, though, I agree with you: a flush is probably better than running additives all the time, since there are already a lot of additives in motor oil anyway.

I use and swear by all nulon additives and products. I use performance engine treatment, gearbox treatment, engine oil flush and fuel system cleaner. I drive my car hard and have never had a problem. Why? i rekon the nulon additives are doing a damn good job!
