Default MacGyver roadside repairs

I gave up carrying tools in my cars on the grounds that when something does break, it's pretty unlikely that I can fix it on the side of the road.

Does anyone have any experience where your Hyundai has broken and you were able to do a roadside repair?

Plenty..

The only MacGyver-ish one I can think of is while at the track I was experiencing excessive crankcase pressurization and poor ventilation leading to my oil dipstick being popped out of it's holder and oil sprayed everywhere onto the hot turbo manifold and engine.

Cheap fix was a spring I found on the floor in the paddock bent to attach to one of the mounting holes on my wastegate and be looped through dipstick handle to hold it down. Worked beautifully and I was back on the track next time around!

Not really a repair but back when I lived in Texas I got caught in a flash flood. Traffic was at a standstill and I could literally see the water level rising. Luckily I had a screwdriver so I hopped out of my car and removed the CAI. Within minutes of removing it the water level was about 8 inches.

i know a guy that has turbo tiburon and one time we were at the street races down here in PR and the silicone coupling holding one of the intercooler pipes blew off the car and was lost so he took a baby diapper wrapped it around the two pipes and put some duct tape around the whole thing and kept racing

Well, I cracked my IAC which caused Toyota like unintended acceleration (due to a major vacuum leak) while leading a cruise after a meet. I fixed it with bubble gum.

A friend's Elantra's exhaust broke a weld after the cat in the middle of nowhere while we were on a cruise. We wired his exhaust up using tape, speaker wire, and bungee cords.

I guess my fixes are more MacGruber than MacGyver. Lol.

Well it wasnt spectacular but my ex had a flat at work and I new the spare was n good so I brought my compressor with me. The valve stem had a tear near the base that I noticed will attempting to fill the tire. If you pushed the stem towards the tear it would stop leaking so I tore a piece out of my matchbook, folded it and wedge it in between the rim and stem, worked well enough to get it home.

my exhaust broke right before the muffler and literally was dragging on the ground i pulled the plastic piece on the driver side off and took my rms wire out to tie it up.

maf sensor popped off on a 3 lane road one each way and one to turn. i put the maf on in the middle of the road.

my friends transmission broke on him on the way to a party and i came to see if i could fix it or give him a ride home.
Turned out 1st and 2nd gear were completely gone.
so i used my car at stop lights to push him to get enough speed to get it to drive in 3rd.

my friends gmc jimmy's fuel pump went out at his house, down a few streets from me.
I used 3 cans of starting fluid to get it to limp its way to my house.
i stood on a skate board with the hood on my back and sprayed starting fluid in it.

these are some of the best stories i have, in general, tell them all the time. good topic
