laugh.gif Ok, dont think I'm nuts2.gif but have you ever wondered if your car has some type of soul that gives the car its own mechanical personality, in a sense? I was having this discussion with friends and they all looked at me like I was insane. laugh.gif

 

It's a machine dude. Thinking about this is a waste of your time.

 

no soul but i do believe each machine will react different to the different users and different kind of abuse each user does, therefore wearing certain parts differently and causing each user thier own particular set of problems

 

 

Cars have a soul and a personality, no doubt about it.

 

I look at it like a car is a machine when it is new, but develops a bit of a personality over time. Most of that is based on 2 things, one is the mechanical break in that you've given it, and the other is the learning ECU.

If you have two identical cars which are driven completely different they will feel different and drive differently.

Personification of cars is pretty widespread, and I'm guilty of it. Because of the times I've spent with my car it has become a valued companion. It's been with me more than any of my friends have, maybe even more than my family. I have a deep emotional connection to it, and care about it a lot more than as a mode of transportation. When something isn't right I get upset like if I have a sick pet, not like a machine that isn't working correctly.

I'm very sad to swap engines because I don't want to change the car's personality. I think that's one of the reasons it's taken me so long to swap it out. Even now, the replacement is sitting right next to the car and it makes me sad to think about it.

Does a lever have a soul? Does a lever attached to a piece of metal have a soul? How about when you take that and put it inside of a cylinder of metal and attach it to a rotating mechanisim? How about when you add gears to that to open and close valves which let in air and fuel? How about when you add a sparking device to that?

Does a piece of silicone have a soul? Does a piece of silicone with a negative, positive, negative configuration have a soul? Howbout a bunch of negative, positive, negative pieces of silicone? How about when you make that cluster of silicone function in a routine manner by applying parameters and electricity?

If you attach the cluster of silicone to the sparking devices and the fuel devices does it have a soul? How about if you add a radio and a GPS?

A car is a series of mechanical and electronic parts which function together to monitor systems and alert you when problems arise and monitor certain user level functions for errors and can make corrections based upon parameters based upon inputs.

There is no soul in a car.

The reason why I only have one car and I drive all the time is because I believe my car is alive and has a personality. I like to talk my machine, too. This is why I probably have one of the most healthiest and highest mileage RD1 in the USA.

It's like an animal in the Christian religion: They are alive, have personalities but don't have any soul.



Man and Machine have tight relationships sometimes.
