I just got a couple and put them in my car in case of emergencies. Anybody else keep them in their cars too? And does anyone know if they expire after time?

Yes. But not for that reason. I like to do long exposure photography with them. no expiration date as far as I know of, they've worked for me after sitting in trunk for 1/2 year.

Aha, our government doesn't trust us with flares. You need a boating licence to buy them, and they take your name down and put it on a register.

Y'know, because of all those revolutions that were fuelled with road flares.
