'98 TIBURON WITH TWO TURBO STRAPPED 2.0L ENGINES
AWHILE AGO IN SPORTS COMPACT MAGAZINE, I SAW A '98 TIBURON WITH TWO 2.0L ENGINES (SUPPOSEDLY) THAT WERE EACH STRAPPED WITH TURBO KITS. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY IDEAS ON HOW THE TWO ENGINES WOULD BE ABLE TO CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER. THE SECOND ENGINE WAS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK AND INSTEAD OF A NORNAL TRUNK LID, THE LID HAD TWO AIR SCOOPS TO COOL THE SECOND ENGINE. I WANT TO KNOW THE ENGINES WORK TOGETHER AND HOW THE TRANSMISSION WORKED OFF BOTH ENGINES OR IF THERE WERE TWO TRANSMISSIONS. ALL THAT WAS IN THE MAGAZINE WAS A PHOTO OF THE CAR FROM THE REAR AND A SHORT DESCRIPTION. I DID NOT SEE ANY ADDRESS TO CONTACT THE PERSON ABOUT THERE CAR. ALSO IF ANYONE HAD ANY IDEAS OF COST AND MAINTENANCE OF THIS CAR. eek.gif eek.gif

The two engines are only connected via throttle linkages and tranny gear selection linkages. The Front engine drives the front wheels like normal, and the rear engine drives the rear wheels.
It is reported to be able to do a 10.x quarter mile on street tires.
The turbo chargers run with methanol injection. This cools the intake charge so they do not need an intercooler, or as large of an intercooler...and also adds octane to the air/fuel mixture.
It works great for a drag car, but Unless you have a handy supply of Methanol, it doesn't work out too well for a street legal application.

Several issues later there was someone that wrote in asking about that car. SCC's comment is that we should expect to see more of that car in the future. They stated that the "challenge" will be covered sometime early next year. By the way don't type in all caps, I got admonished for that early on.
