I finally got myself a Tib, everything happened so fast I still don’t beleive it. It’s a black ’97 Tib and it only has 32 000 Km (20 000 Miles) on the odo, it’s in good shape. I’m going to install the Custom made CAI on my Elantra (3” mandrel bent Stainless Steel pipe no ribs or anything on the inside we don’t use MAF sensor, so it goes 3” all the way) and I’m going to change the exhaust for a 2.25” pipe with a 25” long glasspack, just after the flexpipe. We are not required to use a Cat either, so I suppose the Tib should free some horses up at least I hope so. And, finally, if everything goes OK, I’ll buy an Arospeed Header. Do you think I could reach the 150 HP (I don´t mean to the wheels) mark with all that? rolleyes.gif

3" is rather big for a CAI on a 1.6L beta. I would reccomend you use 2.5" or 2.25".

I'm not too sure about you being able to get 150 engine HP or 125 WHP out of it without some more mods, but it would sure be fun trying!

He, he, he... this time I'm talking about a 2.0 Beta engine, I mean, I got myself the 2.0 Tib FX, that's why I ask if I could get the 150 HP mark.

well considering that the engine is 143hp stock at the crank, 150 shouldn't be a problem. That's at least about what I'm doing (custom exhaust and custom intake). You might even edge 155-160hp but that's just an estimate.

The problem with a 3" CAI on the 2.0L is low/mid RPM air speed. At low/mid rpm the 3" pipe will show little if any gain. It would only show gain at high RPM (5000+ RPM). At that point your MAF and TB become more of a restriction than the intake.

a 2.5" intake is a much better size to go with the stock MAF and TB/IM. It shows gain as low as 3000 RPM.

i'm running the aos 3" intake, and i get a noticable boost around 4,000 rpms til redline, and it may be a combo of the exhaust and tb in conjunction with everything, but for an n/a 4cyl with bolt ons, it's pretty torquey and has a nice punch above 2500 rpms. just my $.02

:edit:
forgot you're running the 1.6L, duh. yeah, 3" is too big.

Well, I beleive Random when he states 3" might be too much for a CAI, but as I'm planning to stay N/A, with the following mods:
Custom CAI / GT CAM / Arospeed Header / 2.5" Crush bend exhaust / SR Big Bore TB
and we run our Betas with MAP here, avoiding the 2" MAF as a restriction, I think a 3" CAI might cause some turbulence, but not as much as in a MAF intake where you find both MAF and TB restrictions. My CAI would run 3" mandrel bent all the way from under the battery tray to the TB.
Actually, the reason I insist on 3" is because I made the mistake of making more than half the stainless steel pipes BEFORE I asked Random (pretty silly huh?) and I don't want to waist that money.
If I notice the benefits of such a wide CAI kick in too high on the rev clock, I'll have to spend again and make myself a 2.5" CAI, I hope I get some boost around 3000-3500 and stay that way.
