I used to shift pretty high up there (5000+) when there's no traffic, I loved the way the CAI made the car sound...
then w/ new exhaust I usually shift lower like 3500 or less unless I'm passing someone, highway, etc. It's quiter that way, less unwanted attention (any exhaust mod in Washington is illegal....3+ fines=jail time!!!!!!)

Hrmm, I'm usually in 5th going as slow as 30mph... gas saver
Wow. I usually don't hit 4th until 30-35mph. That might change once gas gets over $2 a gallon though. But even with my higher rpm shifting, I still average 30mpg or more. That amazes me. My last 4 banger averaged 25mpg with less hp and less aggressive shifting. I guess that car was just old.

when i have my car clean, rims on, and its nice out.. i will shift around 5500-6000 until i hit 45-50. then throw her in 5th gear.
now with the dirty filter (yah im lazy) i dont get the nice CAI sound so, 3000-3500 mostly.
with gas up to 2.40 a gallon i drive much more ecomnomical.
when i boost, probably 6000-6500k to get the nice BOV sound and turn some heads.. but then i will be payin 2.80 a gallon and getting less than 20mpg so we will see how long that lasts.

I skip gears too.. usually third or fourth depending on circumstances.
If I skip a gear its usually 4th. Very rarily, but sometimes 3rd. Depends on traffic.
I normally shift :
1-2 : 3k or lower (synchro gone bad or linkage prob)
2-3 : 5500 - 6k
3-4 : same as above
4-5 : usually around 3500 to 4k.
I drive fast, not recklessly, but fast.
My moto for my commute to work (1-2hrs each way depending on how many retards and HOV violaters there are on any given day) is :
NO TURN SIGNAL, NO LANE CHANGE!!!!
of course that applies to ppl trying to get into traffic in front of me. usually they are the ppl that wait til THIER lane ends and try to scoot on over and fvCk everyone else......basically i live in an area where no one gives a rats ass about anybody elses commute......no one understands that we ALL have places we'd rather be than behind some prick who cuts you off......
F.A.Y. A.H.'s (niether off those abbreviations should be hard for any of you to figure out) driving in the DC area.
The HOV (High Occupancy Vehicles, for those of you who don't live in areas w/ TONS of traffic) violaters (cough, cough, Lil, Cough, Cough) grind me the worst though. Im gonna start calling the MD state troopers w/ every violation I see. maybe they'll get sick of me and start enforcing the laws as they are supposed to do.
Rant finished.

I usually shift b/w 2800-3200 RPM. Some times when i want to punch it i'll go up to 4000-4500.
^^What is the benifit of skipping gears?

cruising mostly. There are times when you do not need to run through all five gears to get to fifth. A nice lazy acceleration does not need the performance benefit of a five speed. Or, if you have already reached the speed limit by third... there is no sense in going to fourth and then to fifth when you can go directly to fifth. In that instance you are actually putting LESS stress and wear on the car... not to mention saving gas.
