Default Weak Link: Stock Rods or Pistons?

I think I saw some discussion of this ahile ago...

In terms of what limits the max safe rpm (or hp in general) of a beta, which would fail first:

- The stock rods & bolts?

- The stock pistons?

I would bet on the valve train personally. I would be surprised to see broken con-rod bolts before the valves started floating.

edit: but this is not something I would try. I would rather add more boost before raising the rev limiter. Friction from high-speed operation is rougher than (reasonable, tuned) boost for engine wear.

I... it would be close. You have a pretty horrid combo of HLAs and a super long stroke.

The 1.8 betas aren't so bad, they have similar dimensions to a B18. The valvetrain is still pretty iffy though.
