rvg = rubber vulcanized glue. Its a rubber glue that drys to a solid, flexible rubber. You can find it in the automotive section of Wal-Mart or any number of stores. You can get it in a whole bunch of different forms. I got one that is copper based. I'm not sure if it is any better or worse than the other ones - the package says that it is safe for O2 sensors and safe to like 700F, so I figured it looked pretty good. You can actually use the stuff instead of buying a new gasket and some older cars were built without gaskets and just used the stuff.

I ended up needing to use it as there is a small piece on the inside of my valve cover that is cracked off. It is along the bottom of it where the gasket goes. I'm not sure where the piece went to. It could have broken off when I pried off the cover or when I ripped off the gasket. Or it could have already been broken when I purchased the car (I bought mine used). My engine hasn't seized, so I doubt the piece fell into the block, and I took a good look to see if it was there. Anyways, due to this broken piece, it didn't look like the gasket would seal properly. I either had to buy a whole new valve cover (and continue to drive the car with a leak until it came in), or fill the gap with the rgv I bought. Given that a tube of the stuff is under $5, I figured I would just do that.

We have a Sears Hardware store down the street from me and I just picked up a nice Craftsman Mechanics tool set, 284 pieces for 170 bucks. WOW>

They even have a nice Tool Card you can sign up for (Free) that gives you 5% off on every purchase.

i just got a valve gasket set that i bought off ebay.

you see the half circles?
well, do i have to put any type of glue to install those, or can i just put them on?

there is no problem with those (half circle seals) now, so u think i can just use the gasket and not use the half circles and circles?

thanks.

btw i got them for 21bucks and they look like good quality compared to the crap one i have on now.

You don't need any glue for the half circle gaskets.

Why not just replace them if you have them cool.gif
