Well Jaws,
according to these diagrams you are wrong about the Elantra trannies beeing betting for more gear MPH.
I think I maid a huge mistake 02.gif
The tranny I was using in my car
And the Tranny I just bought which was SUSPOSE to be BETTER mad.gif
This sucks big time because I cant shift into 5th when Drag racing and right now I am crossing the line @6000 rpms's my shift point.
GOD Damn

I used webtech's gear specs and the gear Excel chart that someone made on HP to plug them into. It shows that the 02 Elantras 1-2 gears are 2-3mph shorter, while 3-4 gears are the same, and 5th is 8mph longer than the Tibs.
I'm putting the 02's tranny in my car right now. When I pulled the old tranny out, I couldn't turn the input shaft at all, in any gear or nuetral. It was fudged bad!

99's are different than 01's for the Tibs.
I know that my speedo says 118 when it bounces off the redline in 4th gear. I took a note of that specifically in case I want to trap that high in the 1/4.
Webtech says that the 99's tranny gets 4-5mph more in 4th than the 01's. And 9mph more in 5th.
So if you wanted to swap a tranny, then I'd go with a 99 Tib's.
Anything is better than the 01 Tib tranny.
The reason why I'm quoting different mph and ratios than what Gary is saying is because his charts (randoms?), are different than what is on Webtech.
Random, what's up with your charts dude?

I just got done installing the 02 Elantra tranny. 5th gear is taller like Webtech says. At 60mph, I'm sitting at around 2650rpms, just as my chart shows me. I don't notice any difference in other gears cause its so minor.
Now as for the feel of it. VERY notchy. If any of you have driven a brand new Tib or Elantra 5 speed, then you know what it's like. I don't remember my original tranny feeling anything like this.
I believe Jaws said that you need to cut the rear tranny mount to make it fit on the new trannies. That's true, somewhat. There's a small notch on the Tibs rear mount that the newer trannies don't account for. It's not a big deal, just a bolt hole that goes to something different that the Elantras have. dunno.gif Jaws said to cut the mount. But since the mount is hard steel and the tranny is soft aluminum........guess which one I notched instead? Took 2 minutes.
