QUOTE (The_Alpha_Male @ Oct 26 2004, 09:42 PM)
Man, I was gonna' go have mine done today because I got the card from the Class-Action yesterday...
They quoted me almost $300 at a delership!!! Then I asked about a 90k service? Almost as much!
Then I told the guy on the phone that I would rather take a 5hit on his hood.
What are you guys getting quoted for this belt, plus labor?

you idiot...

call up ANdy and drive to Redmond (his shop...Advanced Auto)...if it's not closed yet.

He gets a shop discount on a better than OEM timing belt which only cost me 45.oo dollars for the belt.

Hew wanted one hours labor but I helped him and I gave him an inflatable canoe (lol) for my payment. If he charges you if won't be over 100 INCLUDING THE BELT/.

DO IT NOW BEFORE ADVANCED AUTO CLOSES FOR THEY ARE MOVING THE SHOP!

by the way guys:
my timing belt was the original equipped one for 110K miles. I cahanged it then with no problem, the belt was beginning to fray so glad I did.

So you can wait until 90K MAXIMUM, but if you have the funds DO IT NOW, and while you're at it do the PS and Alt belts (AC if you have it). Cuz you're going to need to remove those pumps/pulleys/belts anyway to get to the timing belt tensioner and to be able to remove old and place new one on. Make sure you get the right one!!!!

1.8L and 2.0L are NOT interchangeable.

Is a ticking noise a sign that the timing belt is going? (not for my car, my friends 99 sonata)

You should be able to get it done by any reputable mechanic... It's not that complexe an operation. Just make sure they don't rape you on labour costs!

I'm lucky mine had already been done when I bought my car. Not due again for another 20-30,000klms.

The ticking could be many things. Could be something as simple as low oil level.

If a timing belt squeals, a new belt would be the least of your concerns.
