did you use adjustable cam gears or did you just bump it up a tooth?

I have a Megasquirt computer that I built. I never touched the cam timing.

yea seems like either a megasquirt or msd is the only safe way to advance the timing in our cars

I'm not sure where you got $400 from because you could easily build one for under $200. Even at $400 what other parts are proven to give you over 10whp for less? Nitrous maybe? Regardless of the cost timing significantly effects the power. I'm sure this could be argued to no end.

Cam timing is not the same as ignition timing. The timing the OP is referencing is ignition timing and it has nothing to do with the cams. This can only be adjusted electronically. Megasquirt can do it, but MSD and Fic can only retard timing. Not worth the effort unless you posses the knowledge to build your own Megasquirt. If you have to buy a built one, it's not worth the expense unless you have other reasons to need tuning.
