Default Switching from conventional oil to syntheic oil at 161,000 miles

I have a 97 tib with 161,000 miles. I recently found a store near me that sells Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil for only $2 more than conventional for 5 quarts. The car currently does not have any leaks or burn any oil. I was wondering if it would be fine if I switch to fully synthetic.

I've heard mixed comments about going from conventional to synthetic. I've heard that switching to synthetic will cause new leaks, but I've also heard people saying that synthetic oils now days have additives to prevent this.

So I just wanted input from you guys if switching to synthetic is fine at this stage in my cars life.

Thanks

It will be fine. Switching to a good quality oil from jiffy lube special will possibly (very rarely) rinse out a cruddy blockage that was clogging a leak. Just engine oil will not make anything in the engine start to leak.
