How many of you have short shifter? How much stiffer is it? Is it hard to change gears?

Can you measure stroke of the knob (if measure on top of knob) from 3 gear to 4 gear.

I think with stock shifter it's 6.3"

I installed mine short shifter (SharkRacing). It's 4.7".

I have imagination that with stock shifter I changed gears much faster. sad.gif

 

I have the OBX imitation one.

I'd rather have gone with the B&M but I like this one's shift knob better and it was cheaper. smile.gif

I don't feel like measuring my shifts but they feel shorter.

You'll get used to the short shifter and be able to shift quicker eventually.

One thing I miss about the stock shifter is the extremely smooth motion of shifting from 2nd to third. Now it's not so smooth but 1st-2nd is better and 3rd-4th feels like milliseconds, haha. Over all I'm happier with the short shifter. I'm considering upgrading to an ACTUAL brand name ss.

 

R-side adv. One of the best mods for the car. Can't imagine driving the car without it!!!

Shifts are a lot shorter.

 

I have the B&M and it isn't a miracle mod. There are other mods that make a bigger difference, so you might want to invest in something else. I guess I'm just used to it now, or spoiled after shifting a RWD. It's better, but not "great!"

 

A little o/t, but can the gear knob on the R-Side advanced SS be removed? I already have a knob I'm keen on.

Yeah, you can take the knob off of the RSA, but it doesn't come with the knob anymore so no problem.

As for STS's, I've had the B&M (Tall clunky POS), the RSA (Rside Advanced, pretty damned nice and SHORT), have tried out a few others.

The RSA is the best one out there for us.

 

WHen you say SR SS(AKA RS basic). Do you mean the one you have to cut the base plate?
THAT one is CLUNKY AS HELL.
B&M's not bad, I have that. It's not THAT short, but way better than stock

That is so true. It is nice to have a shifter that goes directly into the transmission. No cables, no linkage.. just a direct access to the shift forks.

BTW.. if you think the Tib's shifter is bad.. you should try my Lancia. Being a 70s mid engined car, it is ALL linkage and has to go around the bottom of the engine and transmission to reach. Supposedly with new bushings it is pretty smooth.. but right now you are lucky to find first from a standing stop.
