Thats not good. Now I am worried about a 1.8L cam install. I can't afford to bend any valves or anything. Good luck with everything.

Don't be worried, just pay CLOSE attention to what you are doing, take pictures of every step, and ensure you just take your time and do it right. Honestly, he made a simple mistake, and he's the only one I've seen do that before.

This was my own fault for flipping the crank 180 degree's. I'm going to clean the pistons up and run them still. Red, I will PM you now.

When you install the new head be sure to spin the motor by hand a to make sure there are no valves hitting this time, if you leave the plugs out it should rotate fairly easy, I do that with most cars after I change the timing belt or swap cams just to make sure it's all good.

Wow, you got a few bendie valves. That really sucks man. The chips in the pistons dont look too bad. you might be able to take them to the machine shop and have them resurfaced. I cant really tell just by looking but it looks like it folded them valves flat. Atleast you didnt wipe out the other side of valves. Look around, Im sure you might be able to find some companies that make valves. Although, seeing as your already in there. If a set for all 16 isnt too out of hand and comes with some upgraded springs and retainer clips. I would just go ahead and change all the valves. Your local auto parts store should sell a spring compressor, if you dont already have one. Anyways good luck with the head, and the pistons.

If you are going to pull the rods and pistons out, please for your help, label them as they come out. Replace all the rod bearings. Depending on the mileage.

If your going to do a complete rebuild, pull it out, take it to the machine shop and have them hot tank it, and hone the cylinders. I dont know how much you know about motors. Seeing as you pulled the head Im going to guess you know a bit. Or have the machine shop do it. Either way. It shouldnt be that hard of a task.

just to be sure and not to deter others from doing a cam install, this could of been avoided if he just turned the crank by hand and made sure that nothing touched correct?

shitty mistake man 02.gif its like when i put my battery in backwards after i changed my clutch lol, bad news there

it's a trick most people never learn. It is like thinking that 180 out means you only have to turn the crank 180 degrees...

Yes, it sucks, but the damage could have been MUCH worse. I have seen valves punch through pistons and gouge the head and bores when the heads get broken off by the piston

I'll be damned, a slightly LOPEY idle. Your idle has a nice LOPE to it.
