Default Oil question

Is it possible to mess up your engine by using the wrong oil? Oil is oil, right? Doesnt matter what brand, weight, viscosity, or if its synthetic, semi, or non, right?

It is possible to mess your engine up by using the wrong weight if you're too far off. Aside from that brands and types have advantages and disadvantages but if you're changing every 3k miles you could safely use any motor oil that is near the correct viscosity range.

Yea there right, as long as the weight isnt to far off. As far as brand, just try to stay away from the cheap ones, that use heavily recycled oil, you can usually tell, cause its thick and very dark in color. As far as synthetic, I mean in are cars the cost of buying that expensive oil could be used to swap a motor or buy turbo parts... I did it for years and the only benefit was nice oil pressure at 120k.... Impressive but the engine still had other problems besides bearing wear...
