No More Cotton/gauze(k&n Style) Air Filters For Me

i just noticed something about the test..
how come course type dust was used on the majority of filters.. and the ones that did the worst had fine type dust coming in?
Wouldint course vs fine make a HUGE difference?
Wouldint fine dust be smaller particles that would fine their way through a filter much easier?

In the japanese test, they used VERY FINE dust (graphite powder). That is why the filters appeared to perform so poorly for such a short test, but they did it as an exageration to prove a point.
ANY filter is going to do good against coarse/larger debris. It's how well it filters out the "little stuff" that really seperates the "good" filters from the "bad" filters IMHO.
If you were to just feed the filters corse sand, I'm sure they would ALL do between 99 and 100% (but they would clog faster). By testing with the FINE particles, they see how efficent the filtration REALLY is, and also see how long it takes to clog up the filter.

Well, I'll pick one of those up and give it a shot, but again, I don't know what adapter we need and such.
Redz,
I remember a guy i met locally who was using the apexi filter on his turbo integra. And from what I can remember from the conversation I had with him about the Apexi Filter is that he just bought a flange/filter off ebay for any car it does not require a specific model of car because he/you have to drill out the coorect holes to match up to the back of the filter.
He then just used a coupler and mounted on the "maf adapter" where the air filter would have went and just srewed the apexi filter to where the MAF would have went on the flange. Then you just secure it to the turbo or intake pipe.
Basically with the Apexi filter and Flange your just intalling it "backwards"
Here is a pic of a flange I found on ebay with filter for 6-7 dollars.

Believe this is slightly on topic, but I took my K&N filter off the piping yesterday for its cleaning (about ~4000 miles since last clean, had been neglecting it)...
Needless to say, the filter was pretty clean. But inside the piping, there was dark road grime coating on one side of the pipe for several inches. Made me very disgruntled.

A few weeks back I cleaned & re-oiled my K&N. This is what it looked like after about 10,000kms...
BTW, it's red/pink when it's clean & oiled.
I've had my custom CAI on for about 4 months now & I'm happy to report that the inside of the piping was clean as a whistle.
The filter does it's job.

Same here, I took my filter out because I wanted to polish my CAI pipe (Stainless Steel custom made) and I looked at eh inside part, it was really clean, then I passed my finger over it and it was still appearing clean, to be sure, I took a new cotton cloth --white-- and passed it there, it was still white when it came out... so filter is working. But it could be because here it's very humid, like above 85% all the time, and in summer above 95% so maybe there is no ultra fine dust here (because humidity would stuck on tjhos particles making them appear not that "fine").
My filter was sitting there for 5000 Km, it was dirty, but not too much.
