My 98 tiburon has 162k original miles valve gasket are bad leaking oil from the head, knocking engine b/c of the valve lifters being dmg b/c it was missing oil from the bad gasket, but i saved my motor before it was seized. but the knocking never really went away but its very minimal.

So now, I was thinking of getting me a low mileage beta 1 and dropping it in. Opinions?

Hey Tony.

From what i hear i think the engines go for about $500 in the states.

But if your car is in so bad condition and managed to keep up with the integra

i dont think you have major problems.

Just replace your lifters(If needed), balance your crank, send head to engineering for port and polish and get new crank and conrod bearings,

and piston rings.

Might aswell do some porting of intake&exhaust manifold and install the 1,8 intake cams and change the timing belt.

I get the knocking sound on idle it come from block close to gearbox(Air filter side).

Its because the car's cranks wasnt balanced.

Anyhow i dont think lifters will cause knocking..

Maybe it will damage the cam/head.

Maybe some of more experienced guys can help?

you should of heard the motor dude, the knocking was really loud even with the hood closed, but at over 160k miles most of the compression has been lost from the engine itself, am a ask my mechanic how much is to machine the head, and port and polish also.

Please dont talk about street racing. (assumed)

We are an anti street-racing site and look down upon it. In the future do not reference it in any way or a warning will follow.

Watch this and think about other people you may end up hurting

As for your motor, I would recommend rebuilding it or dropping in a lower mileage one. Dropping in a replacement will be cheaper but rebuilding it you can make little changes as you go to get some more power and it will be brand new. Good luck

Heres what I would do if I were planning on keeping the car for a while and not looking to get power out of it or spend a ton but have a basically new motor:

For the head just get it checked for flatness and replace the valve seals
Stock head gasket with new bolts
bore it .020 over and get a piston set with new rings
reuse the rods, just clean them up if needed
all new bearings
get the crank checked
new water pump and timing components

Thats about it. Along with all the new seals you would need assembling it. Of course put a new clutch in and whatever else you want to do while inside.

a motor swap to a low mileage motor is going to be cheaper

^^for sure, it's a little bit of a gamble though since you don't know what happened to the other motor.
