My transmission just went

Just talked to the dealer that sold me my car. They felt realy bad and offered to pay half of my share of the bill. They seemed to think that the price was a little high so they said they are going to see if they can talk them down.

Yep, those neutral drops do wonders. Still, 100,000 miles is still a long way for a tranny to motor to go, especially if it was neglected by the previous owners. Thats one of the only downfalls of buying used, you don't know what the other person before you did with the car.
Thats is a rather high price though.

I am probably wrong (I don't know shit about transmissions) but wouldn't a neutral drop only put a strain first gear??? I don't think anyone would want to do a neutral drop into reverse.

could also be a 100,000 miles of no maintaince too.
Yeah, when was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? When was the last time the tranny fluid FILTER was changed??????

1st gear is connected to???? Anyone? Anyone? Check out this diagram...
Notice all of those clutches and brakes? What do you think happens to them when you do a neutral drop?
Also, the torque converter is connected to the flywheel via this really thin, weak "flex plate". You can bend it with one hand. What do you suppose a neutral drop is going to do to that?
neutral drops are BAD...very very very BAD

Odd how some people think a tranny has some gears and thats it. Very intricate little things, those trannies.
I have a bet with a friend from school who neutral drops all the time. $100 he blows the tranny by 30K miles. I have to say though, those Toyota Celica trannies are pretty resilient.
