Default My transmission just went

3 weeks ago I bought a 1999 Tiburon FX (automatic). Then I put it in reverse and heard a slam noise. Then it was like it was in neutral. I put it in drive and only first gear would work. Every time it went to shift into second there would be another slam noise. I brought it to a transmission shop and I need a whole new transmission. The 3 year warranty I got on it will only cover $1,300. I have to pay $1,200 out of my pocket. I really will never buy another automatic Hyundai.

Well, how many miles are on it? How many previous owners?

The problem is, you don't know how hard those other folks drove it. You don't know what retarded stuff they did to the auto.

Hyundai's Autos are fine, they just aren't built for racing. I bet the idiot that had it before you did neutral drops all the time.

why dont you do the swap to manual?

when I bought my car was automatic too, and after a few days had to repair all of it, just because I used my car with a bad sensor that didnt let make the shift right.

after this I have my car for year and a half and everything feel great.!

Have you thought about buying tranny from a junk yard?

Its got 100,000 miles on it. I think there were two previous owners. The last owner who had it last was a girl. I would have done a manual swap but the warranty would not cover that at all. I wouldn't have the time to do the swap myself anyway.

if the warranty covers $1,300 of the bill and you still owe $1,200 it sounds like someone is tryin to rip you off. You can get total rebuilds done for cheaper than that. Even cheaper to get a tranny from a junkyard and have it guaranteed and do the swap yourself. If you get it from Everdrive through autozone it comes with a 1 year warranty on it

The transmission place I am going to is one of the best in my state. One of the reasons it cost so much is the high hourly wage. He said we could rebuild it but everything is so smashed up it would end up costing more.

I can swap a tranny in 6 hours. They charging you $500 an hour or something?!? Id think $1500 for the whole job and part is reasonable

I just did a quick search on car-part.com and here is the cheapest tranny that tested ok

I pulled a trans & motor from a u-pull-it with everything except the exhaust manifold for $165. Used is the way to go. Tell the shop that you will provide the trans and they can do the work. There is no way a tranny swap would cost $1200 in labor.

Yeah doode, you are getting ripped.

Get a new tranny or a used one on Ebay or Car-Part.com and put it in yourself.

No one in the world has a week without 6 hours of free time. Cept maybe the Military now and then, so go get it done. Learn something about your car while you are at it, and save yourself a grand.
