The cylinder Heads between the 2.0L and 1.8L are identical so there is no need to swap the Head.
Just install the 1.8L Cam
The valves and cams are idential between the 1.8L and 2.0L. It is only the INTAKE cam that is different. That is why people only swap the intake cam.

The New 2.0L Beta motor in the 2001+ elantra and 2003 Tibby has a slightly different head. It has a slightly different valve train as well. "In theory" the new 2.0L beta head swaps onto the old 2.0L or 1.8L head, the but to the best of my knowledge, no one has attempted this.

Your boy with the "Korean Spec" motor was most likely talking outta his ass, but assuming he was telling the truth, the best Beta they ever built was 154/153 HP. It was in the Korean "R-Type" and the UK "Evo F2" From what we have been able to figure out, that motor simply uses the 1.8L Intake cam, and modified ECU tuning, and a less restrictive exhaust to make the extra 14 ponies.

I am from...RICER ISLAND!

aka. Singapore...where "Rallies" and autotests are held in car parks and narrow-minded youngsters with more guts than brains use the most crowded public roads as their racetrack, where ppl can drive Integras and Evos and STILL not know how to slow for a corner properly. And where ricers stare you down wherever you go...so you stare back...and flip them the bird once you're on the bus.

OK, so let me ask this...how hard would it be to get that ECU and intake cam, and install it in our betas...I think they have the MAF and us the MAP, or vice versa...would this be difficult or expensive? From what I know...which isn't much...we would have to change the sensors, and the ECU, and install the 1.8L cam...and I already have a nice exhaust system...what are we talkin here, $$$ wise?

If I am not mistaken, the engine you are refering to is a Map base engine. The ECU may not work on the Beta motors, but it may work with the Beta 2.
The Beta 2 motors are in the 01+ Elantra, and 03+ Tib(if I am not mistaken).

The MAP to MAF conversion would require you to replace your USA Spec ECU. You would loose OBD-ii, you would also have to convert to MAP. You're looking at $800-$1200 Minimun. (ECU's are NOT cheap)

You could get the same gains if not better, by installing the Elantra XD intake Cam, sticking with the headers/exhaust you already have, and adding a Cold Air Intake, BTB, BIM, and a S-AFC.

Ya, that is all about the same money wise...but...hm, I think I am going to look into it a little further...who knows...it still even with all those mods...we are looking at an extra 15-20hp...on top of that...it may not be such a waste. Pluse, I think we can do better than $800-1200...I love learning.

I have a different approach, what about changing the settings from the Type-R ECU to ours, and adding the cam...would that work just as well?

Whatever the re-mapped ECU can do the Gen 2 Apexi S-AFC can do the same or better with tuning. Its $295 US though....
