korean spec motors????
ok i was talking to another hyundai tuner last night at the spot by my house. he said that he had a korean spec 2.0 sent from korea that was pulled from a 1999 turbulance. the guy said the korean motor has 25 more stock horses then the usa motor. is there any truth in this?? and if so what companies import the k-spec 2.0's ??

If he got those numbers on the dyno, i think he would be best served tearing the motor down and looking inside...there may have been somthing done to it that he doesnt know about. If not, then he is simply talking nonsense. It costs too much in an assembly line to make 2 different specs of motor for an export market to be justifiable cost...ask him to dyno beside a US-spec vehicle first...and lets see the result. 25 extra hp sounds like either a serious port and valve job with upgraded cams...

Sorry man but we don't get the 1.8 engines here...so there's no way for me to degree the cams and tell you. BUT many others on this site have asked this same question, why not try a forums search, I am sure you'll find what you're looking for!

Far east here man, but you gotta know like if the port shape is slightly different for the 1.8, and the valve dimesions arent the same or smaller, then the swept volume of each cylinder's not gonna be very effective cuz the engine would be like gasping for air!
Thats somthing else you can look into before you do the head swap, but usually this alters the torque curve so that peak torque is made lower in the RPM band with a loss of peak HP. I read that on the net(because the only dyno here is in the RUF facility and it's near to US$300 a pop) More you can do if you go with the cams but leave the head on, OS dia. the valves with a radial cut(multi-angle valve cut) along with haveing the guides and seats replaced to support this. Might as well have the whole head job done too so you can save big time on labour for several jobs!

Actually the Turbulence motor only has 153hp vs our 140 hp. The only difference between the motors themselves is the intake cam. So unless he got a REALLY good deal then he wasted his money. The only performance difference between the cars are the intake cam, a bigger exhaust and a re-mapped ECU in the Turbulence.

The cylinder Heads between the 2.0l and 1.8L are identical so there is no need to swap the Head.I think that the 1.8 head would fit the 2.0.
