So I've got the 1.8 cam, of course it's still in the engine. I have no idea how to take it out and how to reinstall it into my 2.0. Anyone care to explain?

If you are going to do the swap make sure you pick up a new valve over gasket. Considering it is only about $10 it will save you a lot of trouble since once you take it off it is sometimes hard to get to seal correctly again. The swap is really easy. Just make sure that you line the white dot up on the 4th or 5th (it has it on webtech and I just cant remember) link so that your timing is still correct.

 

The valvecover gasket is rubber, shouldn't need to be replaced. I've never done it. Just lube it up.

 

I replaced it the first time I took it off, but then since I had the wrong cam sent to me I had to take it off again. The second time I took it off I just used that gasket repair stuff on it so that it would harden nicely and fill in any imperfections.

 

Don't forget to get some of those little cam journal bolts... they snap easily. Might as well get a new gasket while your at the dealership.

 

be VERY careful with the bolts that hold the cam journals.. they call for 9 foot pounds of torque.. any more and you WILL break them off in the head. I learned this the hard way when my torque wrench decided to malfunction on ONE of the bolts.. thankfully it was on the centre journal.

 

It is, but since she's putting it into a 99 Tib, I'd replace the gasket,... it's cheap
