Hyundai Admits HP was overstated

One other point to make this more obvious. The 01-02 elantra have the same engine as the 03 tib I4. The Tib however came back as 134 hp thus eligible for compensation. The Elantra was 135 thus not eligible. This just seems way too convenient for Hyundai. They have included 400,000 cars for compensation. Had the Elantra been at 134hp also they would have had to include close to another 400,000 cars. I really think they did this on purpose so as to cut thier losses in half.

One of the reasons why I bought "a" Hyundai was because of the awesome warranty. Yes, hp rating was a big factor too but not the only one.
You can always change how many horses your car puts out. According to an online article my tib gained a whopping 16hp to the wheels just from installing an AEM CAS intake!
see here....
Unfortunately, we don't however have the ability to change the length of our warranties. Only hyundai does. If anyone like myself who has had to take advantage of the warranty knows of it's value. There have been a few issues with my new tib that would have cost me hundreds of $$$ to fix. In the long run an extended warranty potentially will have as big an impact on our pocketbooks just as much as any performance upgrade if not more.
For those people that never take advantage of the benefits a warranty gives you and/or argue that hp rating was the only reason they bought their hyundai will feel cheated the most. To play the devil's advocate a company like Hyundai cannot make appropriations on an individual basis. They like most companies have to treat all their customers the same in fear of an even more expensive route of having to settle out of court in lawsuits. I've seen and heard of this first hand from working in a retail environment. And yes the will try to get out of having to satisfy everyone. They're offering an extension of the warranty in hopes that no one will use it. It's like those stupid mail-in rebates you see in the sunday paper that everyone is too lazy or forgetful to send in. Although I feel that it was wrong in every sense I still believe in the value I got for my $$$. So for those that have been driving all this time under the impression that their car was "faster" does actually knowing the true hp rating make your car "feel" slower? I think not.

Called the info line: 800-218-9797
Not only was I surpised that people were still using 800 numbers, (as opposed to 888, et atl) smile.gif , The woman kindly told me the following information.
2001 Accents did not have a differential that warranted a letter. So you will not recieve one. The car was published as 105hp, when in fact it is 106. Wow. A whole HP. /sarcasm
So that must mean any rice I've added effectivly doubles the HP gain, right? smile.gif

Well, I didn't think my HP rating was off (I think the 97 1.8L was 135?), but I called and they said the 97 1.8L was not affected. They have my mailing address in case that changes.
Oh well, no free money for me smile.gif

The really scary thought is they knew about this for almost two years in Korea but it took them this long to correct it state side. OUCH!!! I ownder if it always takes this long to get their corporation to reate to problems. I wonder how quickly they could respond to a similar problem like tires rolling over their vehicles at high speed.... This doesn't look good performance wise on their end.
Whatever I'm taking the 6 year 120,000 extension on my power train. I'm bound to get a new engine sooner or later even with no mods. I'll simply drive the crap out of it...
Damn.

On that USA web page it listed the '97-'98 Sonata 2.0l (i'm assuming all BETA 2.0l from '97-'98) had 125hp...."1997-1998 Sonata 2.0 liter 137 125 9.6%". Is that correct? And my '97 1.8l is suspose to have 124hp?
DAMN?! Well, i dynoed 120 whp w/ my mods so i guess i'm doing pretty freakin good!!
124 - 15% = 105.4 STOCK
dynoed yield 120.3 w/ MODS

Just got off the phone with hyundai corporate asking for compensation. So i asked for a 6 disk in dash cd changer. Well they say they might but then offered to pay one of my payments. My payments are 330 per month. SO should i get the indash cd changer if they allow it or the payment.
