Actually, yes it is. The 1.8L beta is affected. The 2.0L beta is not.

So is that why the Alpha in Europe has always had a lower hp rating than in North America? Cos I've been reading European car magazines for years and every time I saw specs for the Accent, they said the SOHC Alpha had 88 horsepower, while the North American Alpha had 92. I've always credited this to different emissions standards, which may still be the case, but is it actually as a result of the overstated hp numbers?
Here's an Accent specs page from the Hyundai UK web site. You'll see it lists hp for the SOHC Alpha at 88 hp, while every document I've ever seen about the Accent in North America has said 92.
If the 2.0 Beta is one of the few engines with the same hp as advertised, then that makes me want to do a Beta swap even more!!
Okay, another question... when I go to Hyundaistatus.com, and type in my VIN, it tells me the hp of my car's engine was originally published as 105... but I have the SOHC engine, not the DOHC. Now I'm confused.

i don't get it.
I think what Chris is tryin to say is, the dealership had known of this discrepency, and gave him the extension of warranty. So, Chris thought all along it was out of good faith. Maybe this will support the fact that this HP fiasco was discovered much earlier than, now. Salesmen, never to be trusted.Originally posted by Chris H:

Then again, I don't really care, and I know the majority of you don't either. I bought my Elantra for its price, features, and looks.

It looks like the 2.0L in the 99-00 Elantra and the 97-01 Tiburon were also overstated. I know the 2.0L in the 01-02 Elantra is ok and the 03 Tib is also ok.
