How Much Oil Do You Fill?
#4
The old guys will remember that: back in the FXtreme days, some people were concerned with above than average oil consumption. It wasn't uncommon to miss ½-1 quart come the time for the oil change.
It was found, oddly enough, that putting a little more oil than the "Full" line seemed to help alot in oil consumption; some people reported they didn't have oil consumption anymore.
I've been putting a little more than the full line since then, and never had any problem, consumption or other.

You are not going to get higher pressure. The most you will get is windage from the crank hitting the oil in the pan. This will cause the crank to slow slightly and airate the oil, actually giving you LESS oil pressure.
As for people saying that running too much oil will harm the engine. I am at 109,000 miles on my TIB and I do NOT baby the engine. I have hit some long 270 degree onramps hard enough and fast enough to flow oil out of the head through the breather and into the intake to make a smokescreen behind my car (Scared me the first time that happened) and ever since that first time, I Have put a full FIVE quarts of oil in my car with every change.
Car still runs like new, starts right up, and on demand, can lay down a good 30 feet or more of rubber. (With both tyres)

I was talking from experience. A buddy of mine (not very mechanicly smart) was filling up his subaru wagon with oil on the hill and overfilled it. Drove for a few hours on the highway and blew his ****** (have no idea what they are called in english). He had to replace all of those things and tow his car home. Spent a lot of money to get everything fixed.

umm... this brings up an interesting question.... I always put it 4.5 quarts, the amount in the manual. and i always am over. why is this? btw, i go by the little guage on the side of the oil container, but it is over with both changes. the first half of that bottle and the second time I use it. and yes i always change my filter.
i'm guessing oil is setting in there someplace.
edit: maybe next time i'll just put in 4 and see what the level is.
