Hey whats up peeps, well I have been doing my research on boring the block, but instead I ended up looking over higer rpm capabilities on our betas. So heres the deal, if you get custom made rods that are longer in height, bigger pistons, and have the 1.8 cranckshaft, doing the following internal work will make your beta rev happy and safely rev at about 8k+. Is this true? has anyone have personal experience with this? if so please reply am more than interesting in this smile.gif

The same stuff applies to a B as to any other engine.

Ditch the hydraulic lifters
Stronger valve springs & all that entails
Blueprint/balance everything
Make sure you aren't exceeding fuel injector max. pulse width
Fiddle with the computers to raise rev limit
etc., etc., etc.

If you use a 1.8L crank, you will end up with. . . 1.8L displacement. You will also be slightly better off when it comes to the rod/stroke ratio. If you wanted to make a screamer, this might be a way to go. Just remember something has to give when you lose 10% of your displacement and it's going to rhyme with "hork"

Red and Random toyed with this idea a *long* time ago and I think they gave up on it but I'm not sure exactly what ended up happening.

I remember a guy on here a while back who had his RD up around 8200rpm I believe.

There are a bunch of posts here about the guys in PR pushing them up to 10K RPM's regularly.

^^^ yeah but like any other time no one from PR will come in and give any insight or proof so basically to me that is a myth.

Oh, they had plenty of proof, just no real proof of why it was such a good thing.

They posted over at HP a lot too.

They also never really said how it was done, but that's because they were selling the modification.

Didn't someone else here get one of those ECU's but was afraid to run it over 8500?

i havea beta2 swapped accent with a xms-l standalone running here...
ported head, lightened and balanced rotating assembly,large cams
rev limit is set a 8500 rpm

my car when i was running on the motor ,stock bottom end (70k miles), small cams ,smt-6,stock head hydraulic lifters
max usable was about 7500,past that lifters didn't like the revs
my car, turbo, ported beta2 head, small cams, boost (of course)stock balanced bottom end,smt-6,stock computer
7500 rpm and was asking for more,i keept the rev "low" to save stuff
new engine will rev at least 8000 rpm

it's doable to remove the rev limiter but sometimes it can be difficult/impossible to scan it after that

Lighten up the head with stronger valves/retainers/springs/etc. Balance bottom end, upgrade oil pump, standalone and say hello to 9k limit or more. Just make sure you know what you are doing when building and tuning.

I was the one with the modded stock ecu, it had a knob so i could "tune" the rev limiter up to11.5K rpms and injector pulse. and I have never seen anybody rev a beta so high, hell not even 8.5k rpms. in order to rev it past 7.5k, you need some stiffer valvetrain and what not.

I sold the ecu to supry around a year and a half ago.

and yes, PR tuner shops are REALLY secretive about their tuning and combination of parts.

OT most of those betas swapped x3 accents that you see on youtube are running 100% stock longblock and standalone, either microtech or haltech and now ms.
