We were installing the 1.8 cam just now, and he overtorqued both bolts on the first cam journal bolt. They both snapped and the broken pieces are stuck inside the bottom part of the journal (inside the head I guess)

Can I run the car without the first journal? Even for a little while? The other ones went on ok after he figured out how to torque them. Or what do I do? Am I going to have to drill them out and re thread them?

It's probably not a good idea to drive your car girl.... Yes, you will have to drill it out and rethread it.

You didn't buy extras like me and everyone else said to? Ahh well, I guess you could get one out of one of your dead Tibbies.

You can't drive the car without the journals. Your going to have to get a new journal and get the broken one out.

Well, the Tib isn't going anywhere without the bolt out and the new one in. Send your boyfriend to Autozone to see if an easy-out or something similar will work.

whats an easy out? LOL

hes going up to Sears to get a tap and die set, and he's gonna rethread it. Hopefully he wont mess up again. Anyone got any tips on how to do that? I know Mad Machine knows...

ok he got the one out and re threaded it. The other one he said he couldnt get...so we're gonna take the chain guide from the 1.8 head and hopefully that will help hold down the journal on the chain driven side.

DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR WITHOUT ALL THE BOLTS HOLDING DOWN THE CAM.

Do you know how much pressure the cam has to put up with, did you ever try and compress a valve sping with your hand, if you run your car with a jouranl bolt missing it will just snap the rest of them one at a time untill your cam begins to flex right before it snaps in half.

Good luck with that one

lol...did you search here before you went and tried installing it?

being careful with those journal bolts is the most stressed thing with the 1.8l cam install.
