I did a search for this and couldnt find anything. But Im sure alot of people have come across this. Lately, when Ive been punching it, I grind 2nd gear. I do it everytime. I have tried adjusting my technique but it grinds everytime. When Im just normally driving it doesnt do it. But when I give it some gas, it grinds. This just started about a week ago. Stock 5 speed tranny, stock shifter. Any Ideas??

I had this problem to... 1st it was because the tranny had a leak and had lost to much oil(not enough to do any damage). But after awhile it came back...Just recently it cleared up though. How though I'm not sure of, but I think it was me shifting to fast and not giving the syncros time to mesh properly. Now I can bark 2nd with ease.

When was the last time you changed the tranny oil?

Your 2nd gear synchronizer is wearing out. I actually have the same problem, if I take first gear up high (close to redline) then slap it into 2nd gear, it'll grind every single time. I'd say your best bet for now is to put some lucas stabilizer in your tranny and double clutching when shifting to 2nd gear. When the grinding gets really bad, you'll need a new synchro (usually cheaper to install a whole new transmission on our cars).
