engine polishing
Has anyone done this?
I buddy here at work tells me its pretty simple just a **** load of work
Can anyone give me some insight on this?
Im about to swap in an engine in about a month,... i just wanna make sure i have it nice and perty

yes it IS a load of work, expect to pay a lot of money for it to be done if thats the way you wanna go. For the heads, IM, TB and valve cover, these are all aluminium, so it will not be as expensive, but it's gonna cost a lot anyway, the block, thats cast iron if you have a Beta, so that will be expensive, dunno how much it is where you are. If you strip the engine down on your own and reassemble it yourself you save on labour charges, that should take the cost down somewhat.

what do you mean thats gonna be expensive? you can't just polish cast iron it will just rust. you must paint it. you can polish or chrome most of the bits and pieces though. if you have some power tools and some patience you can do it all yourself. just search on the web for polishing. thats your best bet.

I didnt know polishing made it more vulnerable to rust,... arg
Im not big on painting it, since it might mess up with time. Most degreasers strip paint, and im big on keeping my engine clean.

Anything Aluminum can be buffed to a lusterious Chrome look by simply starting with a light/heavy steel wool and working your way to the finest grit.
When finished, use some aluminum polish, and your done. As far as rusting and tarnishing.....not here my freind!
I'de powder coat if I were you my friend.
I get it for $20.00 a valve cover, $50 a wheel, $25 per caliper, and so on. Never fades, corrodes, chips, its high temp, and so on!
