Thanks Ericy321, I will drive it around for a bit.

I really love the car and want to make sure I am not doing any damage to it.

^ to expand on that, I point out that Hyundai says don't operate the engine above 3kRPM with lifter noise.

DTN it's on hyundaitechinfo somewhere, maybe in the troubleshooting for valvetrain noises. They said for HLAs that had been dried out by sitting, run the engine <3KRPM and it should clear up in <15 minutes or there might be another problem. I saw it when I was tired and I'm tired now so please excuse my not wanting to go digging for it right now.

Well if you have done what everybody before recommended and the problem still persists then I'm going to guess you have a bad HLA (or more than 1).

You hear the noise coming from the top of the engine right?

I really dont think the engine is knocking.
I think its the HLA's.
GFTIBURON is it like a ticking sound? It should increase with RPM's and you hear it better when it echoes off a wall/another car next to you.
Right?

When the car is cold it should tick and then stop if you let it idle in morning.
Then after driving for a while it will come back.
Then its not knock.
Its probably your HLA's

The noise is coming from the top of the engine. It sounds like a knock but goes away if I rev the engine a bit.

How much does it cost to fix the HLA's?
