Default engine HP capability?

OK I am sorry if this has been covered already but I was just trying to find out what is the "max" hp the BETA can handle with stock internals? Alll I have internally is the GT cam...can anyone help?

with a turbo you could reach 220hp with stock internals, if you plan to go any higher, you need to change your pistons and rods.

yes with new pistons and rods, the beta block can handle upwards of 600HP+. I heard someone made a beta engine with around 800HP in korea(a skyline killer). Was it cheuk?

ive never heard of anyone actually snaping a conrod. the pistons themselves cannot handle much, but i dunno about the rods. my guess is that they could handle 250-260. above that id replace them. (im looking @ 300+hp, so im replacing them in my project engine)

The rods are good up to 300WHP and the Pistons will fail at over 200WHP

Just to add.

Yes, Piston are the weak link... about 200-250 WHP (Depending on tuning, fuel,timing...)
Connecting rods... I also have never seen one fail. I have seen stock rods used in several 300 WHP cars. The turbo rally Tibs at 400 hp use shot peened stock rods. The massive power boys switch out rods only because most everyone doubts that they will hold 600 WHP.

Crank / bearing may go around 600+ WHP but there is some discussion on whether it is poor tuning or an inherent weakness.

The block has never failed.. the strongest tibby puts down 680 WHP with 15% drivetrain losses... 800 hp at the crank.

We are building a tibby for another shop and our goal is 750-800 WHP running nitrous and a T78. We will be using a stock crank and block.

obviously to get that kind of power out of it your going to have to have it high speed balanced, while or before you do that are you going to have any machineing done to either? if so could you give us a brief explanation of what your having done pls. reason im asking is because im rebuilding a block that was detonated, and my goal is 450-500 @ the wheels.

Azzy, do you mind me asking what are some of the mods you've done?

The block will be a fresh stock block. The crank will be blueprinted and balanced. The pistons, rods come matched and balanced. So, very little additional machine work. No overbore.

Oh, the usual headwork but I assume you are talking mostly about the moving components.
