Default Does filter size matter any?

With there being so many differnet types of filters out on the market I was wondering if the size of them matters any when you install them on your intake?

All other things being equal, a filter with a larger surface area will (pick one, possibly more than one)

*have lower air velocity through the filter medium, with more particles entrapped (vs. blasting through the little holes)
*be able to filter more effectively at the same air flow (smaller filter pores = more restriction)
*have capacity for more engine output (by reducing parasitic loss through the filter)

BUT

All other things are not equal. Get the filter with the largest surface area with the highest quality filtration media that your budget can afford.
