Well guys, I need to pull the tranny on my car, and webtech says I need to attach the engine to an engine hoist. Is this 100% necessary? I don't really have an engine hoist available, and I need to get this done today. Why do you need one? Any help is appreciated guys, thanks.

Actually you can use a jack and lower the tranny.

So they engine hoist is only so you can lower the engine and drop the tranny? I just wanna make sure that the engine doesn't fall out or anything if I don't use the engine hoist.

when i did mine i used a heavy bar between the firewall and the nose of the car and chained it to the engine. they actually make tools to do it but a good heavy duty bar will work.

As long as you don't take apart the engine mounts you should be fine. If your worried put a jack or 2 stands under the engine.

A regular jack will work. I know sears also has "transmission lifts", it works like a regular jack but has a lot bigger seat for the transmission to sit on. Go buy one then take it back when you're done fing02.gif

You need to hold the motor up with something. The passenger mount is the only one that gets left on, so you need to put a jack or something under the motor when taking off the center brace and motormounts.
The tranny itself is not that heavy when taking it off. However, when putting it back on, you're gonna need some help stabalizing it while stabbing it.
