Hi guys,
As some of you may know i was battling with my car for a while..
Im so happy that my car is back to normal.
After i Replaced the Map sensor i no longer have the smell of petrol.

Now i want to know about crank bearings and con rod bearings.
What will these do if they were supposed to install oversize conrod and crank bearings and the installed standard ones?
The mechanic was supposed to send my crank and conrod to engineering shop and then have them cut for oversize.
But he figures that its ok and fitted new standard bearings... now he has to open the engine again...
What a f'ing noob...

The reason why im asking is because i get a funny rattling sound in engine when it has warmed up fully...
And also i feel when the throttle is at 50% and i keep it there on uphill. At 2.5-3.0K RPM i feel a little burst of power.
On downhill i cant really feel it well.
Hope someone can help me out here...
I can only think its the crank and/or conrod bearings.

And i also wanted to know if it will be safe to drive the car?

Will a map sensor from a tiburon swap into my elantra.
I see the map on elantra 2.0 is smaller the tiburon.
I have them at home and im at work now.
Ill take pics and post them
The difference i see is in size.
The tibby one is bigger...
Bigger is better!!! No? lmao.gif

Next time i wont even bother with the 1.8 Cam swap...
Im just gonna buy a full 1.8 head from the junkyard and fit that in...
It will be easier and less hassle free for me...
Damn man im a happy man that my car is nearly back to normal.

^^^ Bump

Get a good P&P on the head first, then swap it on

the bearings, depending on the clearance, will do anything from nothing to causing low oil pressure, to making a rod go fly out the side of the block. It's good for those to be in tolerance wink1.gif

Hey Stocker.
I am gonna get that fixed.
Also i find that i get alot of smoke when i shift gears in higher gears.

Can the Conrod/Crank bearings cause these symtoms
1. I find that i get alot of smoke when i shift gears in high RPM's.
I dont think its the Valve stem seals as these were changed a month ago
2. The burst of power from 2.5-3K RPM

Thanks for the help stocker.

I don't know how easy it is to come by a good engine builder down there, but you might want to try another one.

The smoke could be fuel if it is revving during the shift (are you going rich/under boost when it smokes?) or maybe it could be blowby. What color is the smoke? If you could replicate it in a shop and report with the color and smell of your smoke, that would be helpful.

The burst of power I dunno.

Hey Stocker,

Sorry i only replied now.

I actually forgot about this post because i was busy installing my HID's.

Another reason being im not driving the car is..

Its seems to have lifter noise in 1st 4seconds of idling and then going away.

Then when the car is driven for 30 minutes it comes back to stay.

I think my lifters arent getting enough oil when the oil heats and becomes thin.

I think thicker oil... But i dont want a quick fix.

My car will got to mechanics again.

Apparently the dumbass didnt balance crank..

And cut the crank for bigger bearings.

What a d**k im so pissed man.

And some other mechanic told me that he hears some piston slap.

I can hear something from block if i put my ear on the air filter side its like a knock.

That knock also comes when it is hot and goes according to revs.. Its not the lifter.

Stocker you think this all can be due to the crank not cut??

Thanks for the help

lifter noise in the first few seconds is normal but it should go away. Do you have an OEM Hyundai filter on it? That's all I can think of aside from big bad problems in the oiling system that would make HLAs start ticking after running for a while. Have you an oil pressure gauge? If you can, I would recommend not driving the car hard or operating the engine at high speed in an attempt to keep the internal friction as low as possible, while you get another one built properly by a good mechanic.

Guys, what makes lifters start ticking again after they have quieted down?

Id say just what he did. The oil could be getting hot enough and thin enough to not work properly.

What weight oil are you running? I would add an oil cooler to your setup if this is the case. Do you have an oil temp gauge?

Hey stocker,

Someone posted that the Crank or ConRod bearing can cause low oil pressure.

I think this is what is happening to me.

If i drive the car well without taking it over 3500RPM it doesnt tick after driving.

I dont have oil temperature guage.

I dont have a turbo either but am getting a kit ready for myself.

There is a post on it.

Anyways i got the oil cooler.

I think i should install it...

But i need to fix the bearings 1st.

I think this week.

before modifying youre car make sure it's in good shape
it'S gonna cost much less in the long run this

install your oil pressure gauge firs tthen monitor the engine, check compression

basicly the car needs to work fine in stock form before even thinking to go fast....
